This year we organized some activities together with the Deniz Feneri (meaning: ”Lighthouse”) Assistance Organization for children, who were interested in aviation, during the Aviation Week which is being celebrated between 15th to 21st of May in Turkey.
14 children, chosen from underprivilidged families, came to Istanbul from seven different cities of Turkey – being Erzurum, Hatay, Manisa, Usak, Izmir, Canakkale and Bursa - by air with the compliments of our company. The children stayed in volunteer families' homes for five nights between 14th and 19th of May, 2005. During their stay in Istanbul they visited historical and touristic locations -such as Topkapı Palace, the Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Aviation Museum, Ataturk's Summer-house and Miniaturk. Tatilya was the spot the children found particularly enjoyable.
The main aim of inviting these students of between 9 and 12 years old, along with one of their teachers, was to improve their interest in aviation. That's why the children spent one whole day in the Headquarters of our company. They visited all the departments and learnt about the activies of a cargo airline company. Our Training Manager, Captain Ahmet Ergene, gave them their first lesson about aviation. At the end of the lesson, each student was given his/her own symbolic A300B4 Training Certificate! Our Flight Safety Manager Salim Onur showed them a few short movies about flight safety. Later on the children asked plenty of very interesting questions to our flight team.
The aviators of the future –who knows? - were very happy on the way back home with their new clothes and toys provided by Deniz Feneri Organization and our company; and of course were very rich with knowledge gained about aviation and with good memories of Istanbul.
