While Istanbul is announced as European Capital of Culture for 2006, it experienced the pleasure of hosting the 4th International Theatre Olympics; during the term of 15th International İstanbul Theatre Festival between May 11th – June 6, 2006. Ten countries joined the Olympics and 34 performances were staged in 13 different theatres.
The group named VE DIGER SEYLER TOPLULUGU from Turkey joined the Olympics with the game SON DÜNYA – which means LAST WORLD; written and directed by Yeşim Özsoy Gülan and we sponsored the on stage decoration.
The actors and the actresses put on the play while they were hanging from the ceiling of the stage with steel wires, throughout the game lasting an hour. According to the subject of the game, a plane crashes and three people on board find themselves in a place that they can not describe. After a while, this trio (The Man, The Women and The Third Person) questioning life from a philosophical perspective. Fundamental relationships between man and woman; and the concept of ‘end' are the other themes of the game.
The game took place on June 2th & 3rd, 2006, in Aziz Nesin Theatre of AKM during the Olympics and expects to be on the stage again in 2006-2007 season.
While LAST WORLD was attracting attentions of local and foreign critics and the media; our Technical Department was proud to have provided some aircraft parts for the stage, giving a realistic air crash impression.
